UK CSN Interim Forecast

The National Interim Forecast has been run to provide an indication of the effect of the economic downturn on the industry’s skills needs.

  • The requirement for new recruits has reduced from the previous average of 88,000 per year to 42,000 per year between 2009-2013
  • A total fall of 184,000 new recruits needed by the industry over 4 years
  • Between 2009-2013, UK construction is expected to expand on average, by 0.7% annually
  • There are significant sub-sectoral differences, for example infrastructure is still showing very strong annual average growth at 6.5% to 2013 compared to the 0.3% growth for private housing

Revised regional outputs will be presented for discussion and validation at the autumn Observatories.
